With plenty of room for two, the Mountain Hard Wear Trango 2 weathers winter storms better than most four-season tents and shelters. The main reason is a dual shelf design that offers extra structural integrity and vestibule support. The shelves serve as a modified internal guy system without the frustrating spider web of taut cords and garrote-like lines. Four new Easton C2 carbon poles augment this innovative reinforcement approach. The Trango 2 has two vestibule areas that also double as dual exits and help provide cross ventilation. A large vent in the center of the upper canopy further facilitates airflow, providing exceptional comfort in warm and humid conditions. Multiple guy-out points allow for added support attachments in the most severe conditions. One of the toughest four-season tents around. Comfortably sized to accommodate two adults.
Excellent ! - Just did the first test of my Trango 2. Went camping in Maine for 6 nights. Very solid construction and quick setup. Size is very decent for two people even with my long and extra wide sleeping bag. Ventilation is also pretty good for an expedition tent. A very satisfied Altrec and Mountain Hardware customer.
Total Garbage - I was recently camping in British Columbia during that time there was a huge thunderstorm and hailing winds. The rainfly came off the tent and I was left soaked. Shame on you MHW people for making such a faulty rainfly.
Wow! - I bought this tent expecting to be pleased. Not having test it through any snow i cant say how it handles it. But on a trip we experienced some pretty foul weather. with nearly 4 days of constant rain and winds of close to 60 m/h this tent held up beautifully. didn't budge or leak. had no condensation issues at all and am thoroughly impressed.
Great Tent! - As a person who has spent many nights on the upper glaciers of Rainer in very high winds(75+)and snow I give this tent two thumbs up we have never had a moment of fear that our tent wouldn't hold up and unlike many of the other reviewers it could be a matter of life or death if it didn't hold up.
Awsomely sweet!!!!! - The tent is solid as the mountain your on. It has a great construction water proof as if it's not even raining/snowing. So much storage you can't think it's possible. A little heavy but if your hiking with someone else you can split the load. It is a prince of tents and thats that. I am very satisfied with the tent and Altrec. THANK YOU.
No Brainer - This is the best tent I have ever owned. A little heavy but solid as a rock. Just returned from a canoe trip on the Thelon River on the tundra barrens of the Northwest Territories. Had a tough day or two. High winds sleet. I was thanking my lucky stars I had this tent. Dry as a bone stakes out solid in heavy winds. Can't possibly be a more solid tent on this planet. You will not be dissatisfied.
Sweet as! - This tent was sweet as! I used it on the South Island of New Zealand and found it totally indestructable in what can very demanding weather conditions (wind/rain/frost etc). I was able to pitch it the dark in down pouring rain with high winds without a drama. Also great for warm conditions in Aust during the summer with great ventilation. My poles didn't bend and nor did my rain fly fall off like others have experienced above.
Great Choice for High Altitude - I've used Trango 2s and 3s at high camps and elsewhere on McKinley and in Bolivia (Illimani and Huayna Potosi). They are spacious rugged and reliable in all conditions. Mountain Hardwear really pays attention to details and it shows with these tents. They're not light but for high altitude and bad weather are a great choice.
It's alright - I was backpacking in Mongolia over the summer and I had a great time but no thanks to Mountain Hardware. The rough weather really worn down the tent and the poles got really bent I was forced to pull to guylines really tight to retain the tents original shape. To bad because the material is pretty decent but the poles totally ruined MHW's creation.
Mountaineering design with 3 season versitility - I used the Trango tent on a recent trip to Mt. Olympus is Washington state. The first night was clear and the ventilation offered with the doors rolled back and the rainfly off was perfect. The next night weather had moved in and the rainfly was needed. Even with three occupants the tent never had the formation of that fine dew layer that comes with confined quarters and limited ventilation. The combination of multiple doors on the rainfly allowed us to adjust the ventilation pattern to get a good nights sleep without waking up all soggy.
