Arc'teryx Men's Gamma MX Jacket Information:

The Gamma MX Jacket features a new lightweight Polartec Power Shield fabric in a trim cut. It's isn't waterproof like other Ascent Outerwear, but it offers an amazing warmth-to-weight ratio in a breathable, wind-resistant package. Unlike most conventional fleece, Polartec Power Shield fabric is exceptionally resilient to wear and won't snag like other fabric designs. The Gamma MX is suitable for mountaineering or ice climbing under blue bird skies and it's practically bulletproof when layered beneath a waterproof, breathable shell like the Arc'teryx Theta AR Jacket or the Beta AR Jacket. If you're into gear and gadgets, you'll appreciate the five storage pockets--more carrying capacity than most Ascent outerwear--including a sleeve radio pocket. Interior wind flaps and an adjustable hem drawcord help seal out cool breezes. Made from wind-resistant and lightweight Polartecreg; Power Shieldreg; fabric.
  • excellent jacket - Excellent jacket for all around use
  • Superb!! - My first softshell- I was talked into getting something breathable like this instead of bulky sweaters that get wet with sweat quickly. I looked around and chose this one (Mens). I was not disappointed. Wore it with wool long underwear underneath and a thin gore-tex shell on top and it was a great breathable midlayer for skiing in total "whiteout." I didn't feel cold for a second- even on the lift! My one issue is with the fit but your opinion may vary based on body type. I'll be specific to aid those with a similar problem: I am 5'8" tall 147lbs (thin for my height but athletic build). My chest measures 38 " so the "small" is recommended for me (the sleeves are just right also). My problem (as someone else mentioned) is in the length. The small comes down to my belt but the short length makes it look like it's too small for me (I like the "form fitting" or "technical" look but looking too small is not acceptable- and the length does this). This is a small problem until I move my arms and my entire stomach is exposed to the elements. As a result I got a medium not a small. The sleeves bunch slightly and there is some loose fabric on the sides but these are slight problems so I love this size. It isn't a "tech" fit but it "fits." If you are skinny like me you may need a size up- or you can "true" size it but you may find it problematic without an over layer to cover your belly. Actually if you want to see how this jacket fits me look at the video for this product (above). The model has one that fits him like the medium fits me. It looks good but it's not a "tech" fit. Depends what you're looking for. You'll love this jacket once you choose the correct size. Also: The hooded version is a bit longer and so solves this problem if you want a true tech fit but I personally don't like a hood on my softshell and another on my outer layer.
  • Good but not lasting - First off this jacket molds to your body thus the fit is excellant. However after wearing this jacket for a 3 day winter backpacking trip I've found that the fabric on the back at the seams is slightly worn down and furthermore the fabric which houses the hem cord is also slightly frayed. Powershield is an excellant material but I don't have much faith in the Powershield light. One thing I don't like about Arc'teryx's jackets are their collars--they desperately need a cinch. The gamma mx is good for light activity or wearing around town but I consider the Gamma SV a warmer and sturdier jacket.
  • Amazingly versatile piece of equipment - I took this jacket boarding in Utah with the idea to wear it as a mid-layer under my hard shell. I ended up using it as an outer layer with only a mid-layer and base layer underneath. With a changing weather ranging from snow to sunshine and temps between 16-27 I am very very satisfied with this jacket's performance. It virtually eliminates the wind is very breathable repels snow and retains the body heat like nothing else I've had. I was quite amazed how advanced modern fabrics have become. Great gear a bit on the expensive side but if you find it on sale go for it.
  • MensGamma MX jacket - This jacket kept me warm in windy Baltimore and I did not over heat when I went inside. The pockets are handy for cell phones. The jacket is also not too bulky and makes you feel fit!
  • One of the best light weight jackets you can buy! - Great material incredable stiching fantastic fit just goes to show why Arc'teryx is number one.
  • A good all around soft shell. - This jacket is extremely lightweight and very windproof. The lack of any venting does make it a little stuffy in hot conditions but otherwise this is a good buy overall. Arcteryx jackets are a little more expensive but the quality is very good.
  • Great jacket - The Arcteryx Gamma MX is outstanding. Great athletic fit good looking excellent breathability & water resistance. It is very warm & confortable. I first tried the Mountain Hardwear Alchemy and the Syncho but sent them back because they were not what I was looking for.
  • great - excellent garment Lightweight multipurpose never use my gore-tex again. A must have
